Incineration

Incineration has historically been used as an alternative facility to landfill disposal but the industry moved away from this method due to high costs of disposal and environmental concerns.

Environmental legislation has forced incineration to become more environmentally friendly by implementing strict standards & regulations, this has led to lower emissions which are controlled under the Waste Incineration Directive.

UK incinerators have the capability to recover value from many of the materials sent to these facilities, all facilities recover energy and some waste to energy plants provide enough power to generate heat to over a quarter of a million homes in the UK. These facilities are also used for materials such as hazardous waste and metals which can be treated and processed and reused in construction.
