Plastics

UK Waste Solutions offers a collection and recycling service of volumes of plastic materials. This service requires a specialist provider that is capable of collecting and processing post consumer waste from small industrial premises to large retail outlets.

Materials that are collected are re-processed into granules and can then be used in the production of items such as plastic bags, garden furniture, cups and pencils.

Many of the materials detailed below have considerable rebate values and dependant on the volume collected can be a significant revenue generator. This will also have the effect of reducing waste going to landfill.

We have listed below the plastics industry coding which enables the consumer to help identify the different types of plastic:

PET - Polyethylene terephthalate – bottled drinks and bottles, oven meal trays

HDPE - High-density polyethylene – milk bottles, washing-up liquids bottles

PVC - Polyvinyl chloride - cling film, foods trays, squash bottles, shampoo bottles, mineral bottles

LDPE - Low density polyethylene – bin liners, carrier bags

PP - Polypropylene - microwave trays, margarine cartons

PS - Polystyrene – protective packaging in the main, vending cups, supermarket poultry and fish trays,

Other plastics - that do not fall into any of the above categories - an example is melamine, which is often used in plastic plates and cups
